U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced $410 million in emergency relief (ER) funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help 33 states, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and several federal land management agencies repair roads and bridges damaged by storms, floods, and other unexpected events
The City Council accepted more than $65,000 in grant funds to help make the city a safer, more environmentally responsible place
The award will fund the Pathways to Employment initiative, a new partnership with the North Central and Southern Alleghenies Workforce Development Boards and Adult Basic Education Coalitions that will focus on workers who lack basic skills in reading, math and communications that inhibit them from successfully completing occupational classroom training and sustaining employment
The project was one of six funded after superstorm Sandy in New York and New Jersey as part of a resiliency competition called Rebuild by Design. The winners receive a total of $930 million from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
The grants help free up funds to enable the district to have a school police officer at each building, “without putting increased strain on your general fund”
