The city of El Paso, Texas, uses videos from traffic cameras to promote traffic safety awareness. The short videos feature driver tips, rock music and vehicles running red lights on El Paso streets.
The campaign in part received a Municipal Traffic Safety Award by the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC) for promoting traffic safety in the community. The award “recognizes municipal courts that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to traffic safety and eliminating impaired driving in their respective communities,” according to a city Facebook post.
El Paso Municipal Court has completed a number of traffic safety outreach projects, including:
- Sharing red light awareness videos
- Creating an activity book for children
- Mentoring more than 600 students
- Establishing summer camp classes
