The Massachusetts State Legislature was awarded the Online Democracy Award for 2018 by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) at its annual legislative summit in Los Angeles last week.

The NCSL’s Online Democracy Award recognizes state legislative websites that stand out for making democracy user-friendly.

The National Association of Legislative Information Technology (NALIT), the only national technology awards program that recognizes achievement in technology for state legislatures, selected Massachusetts for transparency and accessibility through its web portal built by Tallan, Inc.

Tallan’s technical expertise and deep understanding of the legislative process enable them to deliver systems that have truly transformed the Massachusetts Legislature,” said Michael Hurley, Assistant Clerk of the Massachusetts Senate, according to Tallan’s announcement. “The public website demonstrates their ability to present complex legislative information in a way that is easy to understand and compelling for the constituents of Massachusetts.”

This is the second time the Massachusetts State Legislature has received this honor.

“We would like to congratulate our partner and customer on yet another well-deserved recognition of their sustained effort to promote openness and transparency to the citizens of Massachusetts” said Tallan’s CEO Craig Branning.
