Officials from the city of Gibraltar found out in late September that they were awarded a $2 million grant by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for maintenance of and improvements to the city’s storm water and sewer management system.

The city had to promise $350,000 in match funds in order to receive the grant. The grant process was competitive, with a total of 673 applications received and $541 million in application amounts total.

The grant will allow the city to update and manage its infrastructure through activities such as sewer cleaning and televising, inspection of infrastructure, topographical surveys, stormwater management planning and permitting, capital project planning, development of asset management plans and infrastructure condition analysis and review.
