Hamilton residents who endured frozen pipes and no water for days last winter will now be able to receive up to $1,000 in compensation from the city.

Politicians approved at their June 10 council meeting the Residential Municipal Disaster Relief Assistance Program for Frozen Water Service.

Mountain councillor Tom Jackson said he was “proud” to support the program that will provide up to $1,000 to homeowners for eligible costs directly related to experiencing frozen pipes. The city will cover the entire expense, rather than a 50/50 cost sharing agreement that city staff had recommended. The program only applies to incidents that occurred this past season.
