WOODBINE – The borough has received a $30,000 federal grant to design a wastewater collection system that would ultimately be connected to the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to a statement.

The grant will also cover an analysis of the feasibility of such a project, along with estimating how much it would cost in total.

(Chris) Christie’s goal of advancing opportunities for shared services,” the mayor said in the statement.

Previously, the Woodbine secured a $30,000 federal grant to evaluate the best way to bring the liquid waste, known as leachate, to the MUA’s treatment facility nine miles away, to replace tanker transportation. The grant also evaluated how much Woodbine residents and the Developmental Center could benefit through the construction of a wastewater system to connect to the authority with the goal of eliminating discharges to groundwater from the aging septic systems and the developmental center’s wastewater treatment plant.
