Fremont, Ohio’s municipal court has operated at a loss of more than $1 million over the past two years, pushing officials to investigate consolidation of municipal and county courts with Sandusky.
Fremont is applying for a state grant to fund a feasibility study. The study would focus on consolidating three courts into one as well how space, IT, staffing, administration and security would be affected.
According to Thenewsmessenger.com, one option for a county-wide municipal court would be two full-time judges with operating costs shared by the Sandusky and Fremont. Currently there are four municipal courts in the county, each with a judge and staff.
