vehicles pass through Lake County’s newest roundabout like cars on a merry-go-round, some disgruntled drivers navigating the intersection of county roads 455 and 561 swerve out of the way of those confused with how traffic is supposed to flow through the circle.
This controversial way of controlling traffic is the latest trend at the Florida Department of Transportation, which says the number of traffic circles across the state will grow because of safety benefits. Some motorists are pleased with the circles, but other drivers feel they pose a threat for accidents because folks aren’t accustomed to them.
“It’s been quite a few times I’ve had a close call driving through there,” Kathy Brumbaugh Wishork, 47, of Astatula said. “People don’t know how to drive through them and will just pull out right in front of you thinking you’re going to stop.”
