WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Attorney General Eric Holder says he disagrees with comments from FBI Director James Comey that police officers may be changing their behavior amid anxiety over being caught on cellphone cameras and viral videos.
In a wide-ranging conversation with reporters Wednesday, Holder praised Comey for “gutsy” statements about the relationship between law enforcement and communities.
The FBI director suggested in recent speeches in Chicago that changing police tactics in the post-Ferguson era may be helping contribute to a rise in violent crime in some American cities.
Holder said he disagreed with that analysis and said there was no evidence police were lying down on the job.
He also said he stood by his 2009 remarks that America remained a “nation of cowards” when it came to honest discussions on race.
