CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- Two grants were presented to the Charlottesville City Council that aim to help the homeless and to combat issues that could lead to becoming homeless.
The Department of Human Services, the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for Homelessness and the Service Provider Council applied for and received the Virginia Homelessness Solutions Grant and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant. Together the grants total a little more than $650,000.
One grant looks directly at people who are in danger of being homeless and the other is for housing opportunities for those living with HIV or AIDS.
The grants will be state and federally funded, so there is no local budget impact, and there are no funds coming from the city.
