The city of Bangor, Maine, has decided to outsource the management of a new $65 million entertainment venue and convention center. The decision was made before the construction of the center even began.
The decision took about two months, and two Pennsylvania-based firms were considered: Global Spectrum and SMG. In an 8-to-1 margin by the city’s council, members chose Global Spectrum. According to a story in the Bangor Daily News, three people involved in the decision rated both companies almost identical.
Combined, the two firms manage many “second-city” venues such as the Dunkin-Donuts Center in Providence, RI; the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass.; the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.; and the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.
