SAGINAW, MI — U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee’s office sent an email Wednesday afternoon, July 29, proudly announcing Saginaw will receive a $2 million grant that will prevent 13 firefighters from being laid off this fall.

About 15 minutes later, about a dozen firefighters jumped into their turnout gear and sped toward a fire on Saginaw’s East Side.

The congressman said he is glad Saginaw’s fire operations will be supported for another two years by the $2,017,145 grant.

“This federal grant is welcome news for Saginaw and means that fire stations will remain open and firefighters will stay on the job to protect our community,” Kildee said.
