The new Arlington Valley Road that will help central Arlington’s industrial center will begin construction this summer thanks to grants recently received by the city.

The Washington State Transportation Improvement Board recently approved three grants for the city, totaling about $2.64 million in local transportation projects.

The biggest grant, which provides the city $2.36 million, will allow the city to construct the Arlington Valley Road which will provide another route connecting 67th Avenue and 204th Street.

The project will extend 74th Avenue so that it connects to 191st Place, creating the new Arlington Valley Road.

“It really helps give access to the east side of the 54 acres of that industrial site,” said Jim Kelly, public works director for the city of Arlington.

That area of central Arlington went through down times after Northwest Hardwoods closed, however industrial interest is returning, said Kelly.
