WASHINGTON — The National Police Foundation has published a new report tracking would-be school attacks that never happened, the COPS Office announced Wednesday.

The Averted School Violence (ASV) database analyzes incidents that were stopped before they had begun. The goal is to help law enforcement learn how school attacks are planned, discovered and thwarted, according to the report.

The report analyzes 120 averted incidents, defined as “a violent attack planned with or without the use of a firearm that was prevented before any injury or loss of life occurred.”
