WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has released guidance for hurricane preparation and response during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a news release, the guide outlines anticipated challenges to disaster operations posed by the pandemic and highlights planning considerations for public safety, emergency management and health officials based on these challenges.

FEMA also outlines its plans to adapt its own disaster responses in light of COVID-19 and the expectations between FEMA and emergency managers for the 2020 hurricane season.

Included in the document, released last week, are checklists and resources to support hurricane response and recovery planning.

The agency said in a statement that the guide can also aid in planning for other disasters during the pandemic, such as flooding, typhoons and wildfires.
