Public officials in thousands of cities, towns and counties brought their communities together for National Night Out 2016.
There were great eats, cool public safety demonstrations and activities designed for family fun. There were luaus, mechanical fish to ride, free ice cream and serious dance moves. But there were also displays of solidarity and calls for peace at this year’s 33rd Annual National Night Out event.
The purpose of the event, which takes place the second Tuesday of every August, brings public safety officers and communities together. According to National Night Out, an estimated 38 million neighbors in more than 16,000 communities participated.
“Preventing and solving crime is a community effort. National Night Out is an excellent program that helps the department build relationships with citizens and create safer neighborhoods. This is one of the events we look forward to each year,” said Atlanta Police Chief George Turner.
