ALBERT LEE, MINN. -- The repatriated remains of Glaydon Iverson, a 24-year-old sailor with the U.S. Navy that was recently confirmed killed in action aboard the USS Oklahoma in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II, came home just prior to Memorial Day 2017 to full honors.

The community was asked to line the streets of Albert Lee after his remains arrived at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, as escort would accompany Iverson and his family to a funeral home in nearby Idaho.

In March of this year, Iverson’s family was notified that his remains had been identified, according to the Albert Lee Tribune. His family has saved a funeral plot next to his parents Edwin and Anna (Trytten) Iverson in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Emmons, Minn.

The planned event included:

  • A U.S. Navy escort with planeside military honors
  • Escort by the Minnesota State Patrol, American Legion Riders, Patriot Riders and Patriot Guard members to the Freeborn County line
  • Escort by members of the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office as well as other local law enforcement in a procession to the Albert Lea American Legion lined with members of the Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Women Veterans of Freeborn County and Disabled American Veterans
  • Escort by the Legion procession through Iverson’s hometown Emmons, en route to the state line
  • Escort from the state line by the Iowa State Patrol, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Mills Police Department
