Time has nearly expired on the vintage parking meters lining Missoula’s downtown streets, and by the end of this year motorists won’t need a pocket full of coins to pay for parking time.
A credit card or cellphone will work just fine.
The Missoula Parking Commission is finalizing a software contract with T2 Systems, a national vendor specializing in parking management. Work to change out the old system is expected to begin in the coming months.
“I believe the meters are ready to be shipped, but we still have some preliminary work to do,” said Anne Guest, director of the parking commission. “We have to install the software and change over our current ticket program information. That will take time. That’s a big challenge for our staff.”
