DUCKTOWN, TENN. -- The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has awarded Ducktown a portion of its federal transportation alternatives allocation to help with downtown improvements and planning.

TDOT gave Ducktown a Transportation Alternatives Grant in the amount of $320,050 and a Community Transportation Planning Fund grant of $95,000.

The larger grant will be used to fund pedestrian enhancements, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades to sidewalks, landscaping, signage and pedestrian lighting.

The planning grant will fund studies for the town’s future transportation needs.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) distributes $835 million in TA Set-Aside funds for surface transportation programs and projects formerly funded under the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program. In 2018, the source amount is expected to increase to $850 million per year.
