Towing companies, forced to alter practices last year, are hooking a lot fewer vehicles in Orange County.
New county rules took effect Nov. 1 and were intended to stop predatory towing and lessen the headaches for unlucky motorists who had their vehicles dragged away, said Alan Marshall, who provided commissioners with an updated analysis.
Marshall presented commissioners with statistics showing a sharp decline in the number of vehicles towed from November 2014 through March 2015 as compared with towing records from the same five-month span before the new rules took effect.
Towing companies hauled off about 2,000 fewer vehicles, a nearly 40 percent drop.
