The Atlantic Cape May Workforce Development Board has awarded more than $1.9 million in Work First New Jersey grants to various agencies and educational institutions in Atlantic County to help prepare eligible people to enter or re-enter the workforce.
Individuals who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, General Assistance or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, aka food stamps, and are deemed ready to work are eligible for enrollment.
The funded programs incorporate paid and unpaid work experiences, life-skills training, work-readiness training, career development activities, adult education classes and occupational skills training to help participants advance or adapt to the changing demands of the workplace. Organizations in Atlantic County currently funded include the county Public Works Department, America Works and Stockton University.
