SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) - Officials say the Secaucus Municipal Utilities Authority has been awarded a $100,000 federal grant for a new generator at its Koelle Boulevard waste water treatment facility.
The Jersey Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1E6KTfa ) the Federal Emergency Management Agency grant is earmarked for the installation of a generator system that runs on both diesel fuel and natural gas.
Brian Bigler, executive director of the MUA, says the current generator only runs on diesel.
Bigler says the generator successfully ran for 38 straight hours during Hurricane Sandy. Had it shut down, he says the entire town would’ve been “backed up.”
The Secaucus facility processes the waste water generated in the city.
Bigler says the new system will channel a natural gas pipeline to the facility, eliminating the need for diesel transports in an emergency.
