Bobtown Elementary students are currently in the throes of summer vacation, with thoughts of homework and school far off.
But they may be more eager to go back to school this August than in years past, after getting a taste of new technology that has entered their halls.
In May, the Situated Multimedia Art Learning Lab, also known as SMALLab, was installed at the school, giving kindergarten through sixth grade students the opportunity to learn while moving.
“Research is showing that students who can actually add physical movement into the learning process are much more likely to be successful, and retain the information,” said Rich Pekar, superintendent for the Southeastern Greene School District (SGSD). “It’s not just visual or auditory, but you’re adding physical, embodied learning. That piece adds to the success of the students.”
