Warren Easton Charter High School was awarded a grant by YouthForce NOLA for $300,000 to expand the school’s career technical education programs it offers to students, according to officials.
The high school offers a residential electrician program in which students take classes at Delgado Community College to receive certification, and also offers a pharmacy technician program for students as well, said Regina Wilkins, director of the school’s fund development.
“There is a program through N.A.N.A (Nursing Assistant Network Association) that has been in place where the students become certified nursing assistants,” she said.
Wilkins said that along with receiving a certification as a nursing assistant, students also receive a certification as an EKG (electrocardiogram) technician and a phlebotomist certification as well.
Wilkins said the program is to help get students in “high demand” jobs after leaving Easton.
