Report: U.S. Metro Economies in 2016

U.S. metro economies account for 98.9 percent of the 2016 U.S. GDP increase, according to the latest report.

The 2016 U.S. Metro Economies Report prepared for the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) is now available. The report reviews the current economic conditions across all U.S. metros and includes details on economic trends since 2009.

According to the report, in 2015, cities represent:

  • 85.7% of the nation’s population
  • 87.7% of total employment
  • 87.9% of total real income
  • 91.3% of wage income
  • 90.8% of real gross domestic product
  • 96.5% of new jobs--the most since 2000
  • 98.9% of the GDP increase--$578 billion

The report was compiled by Global Insights Inc. and contains numerous tables with employment and wages figures.
