WATERTOWN — Students attending Watertown City Schools may be offered technology classes in the near future as the district moves forward on plans to incorporate them into its curriculum.

Schools around the state have latched on to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics craze, and now with a large grant from the U.S. Department of Defense and a new STEM program director, the Watertown City School District is well on its way to jumping on board.

At the Board of Education meeting Tuesday, Lisa J. Blank, the new STEM project coordinator for the district, announced the district won a $1.25 million grant from the Department of Defense’s Education Activity program.

“This will help us boost our student achievement in mathematics, which we all know is not nearly where we would like it to be,” Mrs. Blank said.
