HOT SPRINGS - The City of Hot Springs was notified via email on July 1 that it was selected for a 2015-2016 South Dakota Healthy Vending and Snack Bar Grant, offered by the South Dakota Department of Health. The City will use the grant at Evans Plunge, one of 15 operations selected for the grant, and one of three selected from West River.

City Administrator Nolan Schroeder applied for the grant in June and was notified the city had been selected as a recipient by Megan Hlavacek, the Healthy Foods Coordinator for the DOH.

“I was very excited to hear we were selected for this opportunity,” said Schroeder. “Evans Plunge was founded as being a center for healing and wellness. I am happy we are returning to our roots by soon offering more nutritious food options.”

As the recipient of the grant, Evans Plunge will receive $1,000 to provide an environment that encourages healthy eating habits among its guests and employees. Evans Plunge will also receive 1-on-1 training, healthy vending and snack bar toolkits, professionally formatted promotional signage, and technical assistance.
