ALBANY, N.Y. - New York health officials say $7 million from a federal grant will go to four organizations working to prevent and control obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke in the state.
The grant, awarded by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be dispersed over three years.
The organizations are in counties with high rates of chronic disease with a large minority population.
They’re expected to fund strategies to reinforce healthful behaviors, encourage lifestyle changes and link community programs to clinical services.
Funding includes more than $2 million for Health Advancement Collaborative of Central New York, Hudson River HealthCare Inc. and P2 Collaborative of Western New York, plus nearly $1 million for the Albany County Health Department.
