Kids in the Kitchen, a program sponsored by the Junior League of Eau Claire, for which Bestland was the 2014-15 president, was recently awarded a $12,000 Hometown Health grant from the Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire Foundation to expand its reach for teaching students lessons in preparing healthy meals.

Initially launched at the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley, the program catered to about 8 to 12 students per month, though some of those students were class regulars.

The Hometown Health grant would allow the program to balloon in its capacity to reach about 600 fourth-graders in the Eau Claire school district each school year.
