CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte City Council voted to accept a $612,922 grant for an anti-gang initiative, in an attempt to reduce gang activity.
The grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, provides Charlotte-Mecklenburg police with money for technology to monitor gangs.
The technology will include 26 cameras, overtime money for gang detectives and training.
The grant also helps sustain a community program based at First Baptist Church-West which focuses on gang prevention.
For the first time, the program will provide summer sessions for 40 at risk youth, including separate summer sessions for girls.
