RAPID CITY, S.D. -- Using a new 3-D facial approximation tool, South Dakota officials have released a drawing and three-dimensional head shot of what a murder victim may have looked like in a 15-year-old cold case in the northern Black Hills.

In February of 2000, the skeletal remains of an unidentified man who died from multiple gunshot wounds -- likely in the fall of 1999 -- were found north of St. Onge in a secluded area under two 7-foot wooden planks.

With the use of the FBI 3-D facial approximation, law enforcement was able to release an updated look of the victim, said South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley in a news conference this week with other law enforcement officials.

The technology creates a three-dimensional head shot, created to give investigators and the public a better idea of how the man looked before his death.
