Two small city parks will be improved with an infusion of more than $300,000 in grant money.

The city of Parsons learned in a letter from the Kansas Department of Commerce on Monday that the city will be a recipient of $309,651 through a special round of funding in the Community Development Block Grant program. The city will provide a 10 percent match.

“We were excited about it,” City Manager Debbie Lamb said Tuesday.

At Clark Park, the city plans to spend $261,395 on playground equipment, a sidewalk, lighting and two picnic tables. The equipment will include climbers, an observation deck, four slides with two deck levels, a connecting bridge, imagination panels, a merry-go-round, swings and two spring riders. The city also plans to install a soft-surface tile and sub-base.
