The plan was developed by the Economic Advisory Commission, along with county staff, and the Board of Supervisors adopted it at their March 3, 2015, meeting. This new plan will help to facilitate economic success by charting:
- Vision and goals to guide economic growth and success
- Strategies to achieve goals
- Specific actions to make the county successful
The strategy focuses on high-level policy recommendations, integrated with the county’s overall vision and mission, to help the county to expand and diversify the economy, and it focuses on six goals:
- Further diversifying the economy
- Creating places where people want to be
- Improving the speed, consistency, and predictability of the county’s development review process
- Investing in natural and physical infrastructure
- Achieving economic success through education and social equity
- Increasing the agility of county government
Summaries are available for the public outreach that was conducted.

Why a Plan Is Needed
The county faces challenges to its continued economic success, including:
- Fewer federal jobs due to recession and sequestration
- Job recovery that is focused on new sectors, such as health care, retail, and hospitality
- Higher office vacancy rates
